New Jawad, Paris

http://www.jawadrestaurant.com/nj/

Address: 12 Avenue Rapp, 75007 Paris, France

This used to be one of the better Indian restaurants in Paris , but has gone down in the past year. Would rate it 6.5/10 now, down from a 8.5.

Lamb chilli - tender lamb in spicy sauce. A bit creamy, which is unexpected. 7/10
Naan - good. 8/10
Lamb seekh Kabab - 4/10. Strong taste of garlic , and didn't seem fresh garlic either.
Baigan bharta - 4/10. Very creamy. No taste of brinjal, let alone fire roasted eggplant. Could have been anything.

Kulfi- 9/10. Done well.
Mango lassi- 5/10
Pineapple lass - 5/10
Aloo paratha - heard it was ok.

Mazza, Berkley, MI

http://www.mazzaindiancuisine.com/id1.html
3354 W. 12 Mile Road, Berkley, MI 48072
(248) 543-6299

Lamb karahi - 6/10 - sizzling and spicy but the lamb was a bit tough and the flavor was superficial. The thick gravy was nice.

Tikka biryani - 5/10 - the biryani ex chicken was ok, but the 'chicken tikka' chunks in it seemed like left over chopped tandoori chicken pieces that had dried.

Star of India, Ferndale, MI

 180 W 9 Mile Rd, Ferndale, MI 48220

Lamb biryani - 5/10 - nothing to write home about. Very average. Was accompanied by a vegetable curry that didnt help either. Not even worth taking a picture of.

Gaylord Restaurant, London, 6/10

 www.gaylordlondon.com
+44 20 7580 3615
 79-81 Mortimer St, London W1W 7SJ UK

Restaurant with a nice ambiance, however the food didnt match up. Ordered the dishes based on the server's recommendation and also told them how I prefer it cooked... but...

Hyderabadi ghosht (lamb) biryani - 6/10. Had flavor and the lamb was nice, but not great. Too much overtones of mint and clumps of white rice as if the thing was not properly mixed (having to mix is a no no anyways).

Murgh (Chicken) bhuna (roasted, in curry) - 6/10. This was a disappointment with too much tomato and the chicken was dry and fibrous. Normally, this would have been a dark brown well blended thick gravy (not orange) .. but theirs seemed put together in haste (not that the food arrived any faster). And to top it all, there was a full carrot floating in the curry! (decor, I assume)

Naan - 5/10. Fresh, but was on the sour side, as if made with over fermented dough.

Chung Fa, Mahanagar Lucknow India

New Goal Market, Mahanagar Lucknow

This used to be one of the best Indo Chinese places in town, 20 years back. One of the few places that served very good chili chicken. Unfortunately, the place has gone downhill faster than Jack and Jill.. But it still exists.

Chili chicken dry - 6/10. Very disappointing. And expensive.

Sheezan, Paris 5/10

  1. Address: 84 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, 75010 Paris, France

A 'dhaba' like ambience, Indo Pakistani food, but the food didnt live up to the expectations of a good dhaba.

    Naan - 6/10
    Chicken kabab - 5/10
    Lamb seekh kabab - 5/10

Both the kababs were not moist and didnt have much flavor either.

Lamb biryani - 7/10. Tasty, not too spicy.

The food is not consistent though, as the second time around it was better (I hear).

Mehmaan, Nashua NH

Mehmaan Indian Restaurant (603) 891-1616
295 Daniel Webster Hwy, Nashua, NH 03060

Was dissappointed by their weekend buffet - average 5/10
The food came out at 12 noon (few minutes after they open). The rice and naans came at 12.20. Obviously the food was a re-heat of the previous day. The chicken biryani was not even heated well, with clumpy cold rice.

Tandoori chicken - 5/10 - the usual stuff at every place
Chicken curry - 6/10 - tasty but nothing much to write a blog about
Chicken biryani - could have been edible if it was re-heated at least - 4/10
Kheer - nice
Vegetarian food was ok. Matar paneer, some daal... usual fare.

Pongal, Billerica MA

Pongal, 786 Boston Rd Billerica, MA 01821
(978) 667-3443

Update 4/25/10
By far the best Indian restaurant this side of town! It also has a good selection of Indo-Chinese food.

Chilli paneer dry - 8/10. Very good, well made, comes very close to the Indian Chinese style, probably without much MSG
Chilli chicken dry - 8/10. ditto. The real deal, not adulterated by green peppers and such, although it has onions (the Indian one is just green chillies and chicken)
Chicken chettinad - 8/10. Very tasty and flavorful. It didn't feel like chicken thrown in some standard gravy, as we also ordered veggie chettinad. The chicken was juicy and prepared well.
Vegetable chettinad - 7/10. Good stuff.
Lamb seekh kabab - 7/10. This one was a bit disappointing, given the other good food and expectations, but not bad nonetheless. Could have been a bit more moist and flavorful.

Overall, this is the place to goto if you are in the Northwest area.

Update 1/1/10
The weekend buffet is good, 7/10 on average.
They have a good mix of veg and non veg. Their tandoori chicken is much better than the average fare elsewhere. Its well marinated.
Goat curry - 7/10
Lamb biryani - 7/10
Naan - 7/10
Chicken tikka - 7/10
One of the best in the area.

This restaurant replaced Masala. The decor is better, but the food is average.
Update 4/9/09Heard from many foodies that the buffet is much better on weekends.

Buffet included:
Tandoori chicken - 5/10
Chicken tikka masala - 5/10 - the chicken pieces were dry and the gravy as usual
Lamb meat balls - 6/10 - nice flavor, but the gravy could have been better - the ingridients and spices werent well mixed in, which left the gravy chunky (much like an amateur cook - how most bachelors cook at home :)
Ginger chicken - 5/10
Bhindi (okra) entree - undercooked okra
Garlic naan - 6/10 (was fresh and served as part of the buffet)
Service was slow.

Mysore Veggie
1689 Middlesex St, Lowell, MA
(978) 452-8700

South Indian vegetarian restaurant, along with the usual North Indian cuisine too. They have some fusion dishes too (I still havnt come across a properly "fused" fusion restaurant - they all seem to be lost in translation). I prefer the Udipi next door (almost).
The food was ok - idli/sambar, and some multi-vegetable uttapam. 5/10
They have a Sunday lunch buffet.

Saturday, June 30, 2007

Bombay Club
57 Jfk St, Cambridge, MA
(617) 661-8100

They have a variety in the buffet - freshly made dosas (nice), chat and the usual buffet spread - tandoori chicken (5/10, 1/2 mm problem), some vegetarian food thats on the richer side (ok).
Unfortunately, the food is barely above average.
Rasoi
Trolly Square, 855 Worcester Rd, Framingham, MA
(508) 872-4060

Its been a while since I ate there. I remember it was not anything to remember about. Else I would have remembered. :)
The food was ok overall. 5/10
